"Space Chase" Progess


Hello all,
so this is as far as I've gotten with the "Space Chase" project. All of the elements are pretty much in place. This past week I decided to create a "prey" ship. I know that I mentioned that I would just duplicate the one ship for the sake of time, but it kept gnawing at me, it just felt like it would cheapen the project; so I created a ship that would be the "prey". I textured the asteroid and created a space setting for everything to take place even placing everything within a sky-dome. Going forward, this week I plan on planning the chase and creating the effects I'd like to use for the project such as lasers, explosions and debris from the asteroids hit by the lasers. If there's time, I'll also begin texturing the ships but may wait on that till next week since that's the least of everything that needs to be worked on. A personal side bar, if there's time, I'd really like to get some cool lens flares in the shots; I think that will set the piece off nicely when it's all composited together in the end. Oh well, that's it for now, thanks for checking out the progress, hopefully I'll be able to stay on schedule and have everything planned for this week to show for next Sunday.

Space Ship 3D Model

Hello, so this week I began production on the Space Chase project. I modeled the ship I'm going to use in the animation and as a matter of fact, to save time, I'm actually going to use the same ship as both predator and prey (time being a factor is the only reason for doing this). I may add a couple of little things to the model such as a gun barrel (nothing major but definitely a place where the viewer can see where the lasers can come from). Going forward, the next thing I'll be creating is the technical simulation that needs to take place in this assignment. To satisfy that portion of the assignment, I'll be creating explosions and laser fire to the asteroids the ships will be weaving in and around of. Pirate Ship Scene_Final Render

Well this is it, after all of those weeks working on this assignment, it's finally done. This is the "Pirate Ship" scene. For the final I tweaked the shadows by making them softer, giving them a more neutral type of color that I think blends better in this environment. In this render I also added a new scene to help spell out that the ship is a pirate ship. I also incorporated some music and sound effects to help spell out the ominous mood that I was hoping to convey. Well that's it, it was a fun and challenging project to work on, now on to make something better with the skills learned from this assignment; looking forward to that; ultimately this turned out to be a really cool project.

These stills are the final model designs from the "Pirate Ship" project. This project was challenging and fun; really learned a lot from it, hoping to take it a step further for the next assignment.

This is the progress to the pirate ship project. The quality of the render is not exported at the type of production resolution the final version will be this week so you may notice some buzzing in the video. The first scene will be animated differently, I'm not happy with the way it plays out compared to scenes 2 and 3, the revised version will follow the swooping feel of the other scenes but will be a nice introduction of the ship. For the final there will be ominous music to help create the notorious feel I want the pirate ship to convey. Also, I'll include ocean sounds and maybe creeks of wood and flaps of the flag and sails. I may also include a couple of tight shots of the pirate flag flapping and sails. Thanks for checking it out, stay tuned.

So this is the progress of my pirate ship project. I've textured about 98% of the ship with cannons and lanterns to finish texturing. I plan on finishing this up this week and moving back to the Westlok short; I have been working on that this week as well but didn't feel that I got far enough to post progress on it; the texturing of the pirate ship took a lot of my time. Stay tuned for follow ups.

Here is the updated "pirate ship" project that I've been working on. The last I posted, I had the model of the ship, I've since placed it in an environment, a deep ocean setting. I've added fog to go along with the rough waters and actually "rain"; it's already animated, it just wasn't ready for this export due to the fact that it's still rendering. The camera movement in this export is too fast for my liking, in upcoming exports, I'll make sure to slow the camera down to emphasize the ominous take I want the scene to read. I also plan to include music, creaking wood sound effects, the rain (already created and animated), lanterns on the ship, texture on the ship, cannon fire and ships in the distance near the horizon probably firing on each other. I hope to have this project done by the next two weeks.
So here's my progress on the "Westlok" short. In the second scene you'll notice that I've begun to flesh out the action of the Cody character. I've fully animated his lip sync and head animation; the way I like to work at times when fleshing out the acting is to focus on the lead part of the body, the portion that does most of the acting and flesh everything else around it out. I find that doing that allows for the central portion of the acting to be emphasized while everything else caters around it. I'll continue to work on this short and hopefully get it to a place I'm proud of in the end.
